Program Description

At the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine, advanced cancer patients will be prospectively consented and enrolled on an existing precision medicine clinical trial, which includes a new metastatic biopsy, whole exome sequencing (WES) of tumour/normal DNA, whole transcriptome profiling (WTS) of tumour by RNA Sequencing, and the development of preclinical models from metastatic tumour biopsies. Our project is pan-cancer with all major tumour types represented as well as less frequent tumour types including paediatric tumours.

Program Goals and Expected Outcomes

Our project is pan-cancer with all major cancer types represented as well as less frequent tumour types including paediatric tumours. By combining genomic data with circulating tumour analysis, transcriptomic data and organoid model development we aim to utilize a multi- faceted approach to better understand the molecular roots of cancer.

What gaps in existing knowledge will be addressed by the study?

All too often, cancer patients become resistant to therapies for reasons we do not yet understand. We aim to use our characterization data paired with our organoid models to evaluate drug resistance and use the results to drive new discoveries in overcome this unmet need.
